From A Daimyo’s Arsenal Comes A Very Scarce And Heavy Signed Japanese Percussion Wall Cannon (Tangeshima) Weighing 14+ pounds Circa 1845 With Silver Hosokawa Mon.
27 and 3/4 inch round barrel with top flat and classic octagonal cannon muzzle. 75 caliber.
Well signed with 10 characters by the justly famous Kunitomo. Silver mon at breech. Highly sophisticated iron lock plate with large sculpted percussion hammer. Curled trigger with no guard. Beautiful highly figured red oak (kashi wood) fullstock with classic flats along the fore-end. Brass chrysanthemums. Brass butt fitting absent.
The bore is good and the action works well. This is a most impressive heavy wall gun a full 39 inches overall and original Japanese percussion guns are far rarer than matchlocks.
