A Unusually Fine Model 1816 U.S. Flintlock Musket By “W.L. Evans” “Valley Forge” Dated 1829.
42 inch round barrel. 69 caliber. Regulation iron mounts.
This is an very unusual Evans 1816 musket. The lock with correctly spelled “EVANS” and date 1829 over U.S. with 1500 made but dated 1832-1833. Type III configuration. The first type 1816 Evans has EVENS (misspelled) and dated 1826, 1827 or 1828.
The musket in exemplary condition with perfectly struck markings and all correct small lock parts. The barrel with smooth metal and some flash pitting at the breech. The tang dated 1829. The stock is excellent with no appreciable wear and two excellent military inspector’s cartouches and none of the usual splinters along the fore-end and only extremely minor dents. This is a real “full dimension” 1816 with a most interesting date.
Possibly one of the first with the correctly spelled lock markings. The bore is fine and the action on both half and full cock is as crisp as it was when issued nearly 2 centuries ago.
If you are looking for a far above average 1816 and not a well used example here is your U.S. musket.
