A Good Well Signed Nicely Inlaid Japanese Matchlock Musket (Tanegashima) Circa 1800.
41 and 1/2 inch octagonal barrel swamped at muzzle with characteristic Japanese gun front and rear sight. A 5 and 3/4 inch decoration breech of silver zogan chidori and tree branch in santoku and copper covering three flats. Unusual four character signature.
Condition of barrel is good with deep brown patina. Inlay remains very good. Fine exotic Japanese wood stock with beautiful grain and inlaid with santoku maple leaves. Snap matchlock lock of brass with chrysanthemum sear cover. Lock will not cock. Pan cover and fence are present. Stock with small areas of loss along barrel channel.
