A Most Unusual And Luxurious Saudi Arabian Saif (Saber) Fully Silver Mounted Circa 1880.
The 29 and 1/2 inch long blade with long triple fullers is deeply struck on the right side forward of the quillions with an eight pointed star. The blade with some rust staining mostly confined to 16 inches from the point. The blade is 1 and 1/16th inch wide at forte.
The hilt with lovely artistic expanded engraved quillions and exotic wood grip inlaid with silver diamonds. The silver pommel with Arabic calligraphy. The silver characteristic saif chain is detached but present. The hilt in fine condition throughout.
The work of art solid silver covered wood scabbard is decorated with repousse silver panels of blossoms on a punctate ground bordering an elegant plain central panel on both sides. The blade remains razor keen and fits the scabbard perfectly. The scabbard retains a long heavy silver carrying chain.
This is a most luxurious saif and will appeal to any collector of Mid-Eastern weaponry.
