A Handsomely Mounted Shinto Period Mu Mei Japanese Samurai Sword Wakizashi Circa 1730.
15 and 1/8th inch shinogi tsukuri blade with lovely mokume hada and midare hamon in nearly full bright kesho polish with the faintest micro areas of shintetsu which in no respect detract from the beauty of this wakizashi. Ubu nakago with one mekugi-ana and fine untouched old patina.
Double silver wrapped habaki. Lobate iron tsuba chiseled with a writhing dragon. Fine kinko fuchi kashira decorated with basketweave design and dark shakudo kiri mon. Beautiful and rare leather wrap and large band mounted with soft metal Noh masks, one heightened with silver. Shakudo nanako kozuka with water buffalo in relief three in finely patinated copper and two in gold, the blade signed Sadatoshi.
Very fine ribbed lacquer saya with green nashji throughout in excellent condition. Plain dark copper kojiri. Altogether a most appealing mounted wakizashi.
