A Good Shin Shinto Japanese Samurai Sword O’Tanto In Attractive Samurai Mounts Circa 1845.
Heavy 11 and 1/2 inch hira tsukuri blade with notare temper is 1 and 1/8th inch wide at hamachi. Ubu nakago with yoko yasuri-mei and one mekugi-ana. Good relief carved iron fuchi kashira with chrysanthemum, crane menuki. Tight old white silk wrap. Good same. Lovely ishime lacquer saya with iron kojiri ensuite with fuchi kashira. Horn kurikata with sekigane, Good iron kozuka with raised silver oak leaves. Rare iron waribashi (horse needle). Plain samurai style iron tsuba. Silver foil wrapped copper habaki.
Blade is in a fair state of polish with no kizu. Mounts are good overall. A most attractive o-tanto at an equally attractive price.
