Savage Revolving Fire-Arms Co. Navy Model Revolver.
Made circa 1861-mid 1860's, only about 20,000 made. .36 Caliber, 7 1/8" octagonal barrel, 14 1/4" overall length. Smooth gray-brown patina. Markings on topstrap are half visible. Action functions, cylinder does not lock up. Bore is dark with good rifling and even minor pitting. Original wood grips show losses on the edges, a repaired toe and old varnish.
Purchased under contract by the Army and Navy, the Savage Navy Model is one of the most visually and mechanically unique revolvers used during the Civil War.
