A Very Rare And Unique Matched Pair Of Elaborately Inlaid Caucasian/Ottoman Gun Butt Miquelet Holster Pistols Circa 1835.
12 and 1/2 inch plain steel round barrels. 52 caliber. Patilla style miquelet locks with brass maker’s poincon filled with brass and maker’s name in Arabic. Circassian walnut fully-stocks finely and luxuriously inlaid with white morse in wheel and chevron patterns enhanced with niello inlaid brass roundels throughout in the Ottoman manner. Ball triggers in the Caucasian manner. Morse buttplates.
This is a very showy and attractive pair of pistols. Steel surfaces are smooth metal. Maker’s poincons are crisp and easily read. Actions on both pistols are good and bores are fair to good. Stocks are fine and all inlays are original. 18 and 1/2 inches overall.
An extremely decorative pair of this scarce form of holster pistol that will enhance any collection of Eastern pistols. Made without ramrods as the warriors who carried this type of firearm used a detached rammer called a suma.
