A Very Finely Decorated And Unusually High Quality Qajar Persian Shield “Sipar” Circa 1835.

16 and 1/2 inches in diameter. This sipar is a splendid work of art. The etching is unusually deep with exuberant Arabesques. Reserve panels appear to be wootz steel bordered with gold lines, The rim with panels of calligraphy with gold borders and blossoms in reserve similar to a minaret, Bosses are decorated with gold Damascene. Round central panel with Persian nobleman hunting boar within a gold Damascened round frame.

The rim on this lovely museum quality sipar is steel rather than the far more commonly seen brass. Condition overall is excellent with only light wear. Original cloth liner is loose but present.

An altogether superior example of this type worthy of an advanced collection of Islamic arms and armour or any aficionado’s office wall. A work of art in three dimensions.
