A Fine And Rare Gold And Silver Inlaid Steel Stocked Scottish Lobe Butt Flintlock Pistol By James Innes (Edinburgh 1793-1820) Circa 1800.
7 and 1/8th round barrel with faceted muzzle. 55 caliber. A silver reserve is engraved “Innes Edinb”. Barrel is further decorated with a full silver band. Bolted lock with gold sunken reserve “J Innes). Engraved cock and bridled frizzen. The engraved steel half stock with large vacant silver reserve above a gold and silver inlaid knot with an engraved portrait head in gold.
Lobe butt finely engraved ending in an expanded silver blossom. Steel belt hook and brass tipped ramrod. Solid silver button trigger. Crisp action and excellent bore. Pistol is said to have come from the collection of the Baron of Loudoun, red silk ribbon with paper tag and remnants of red wax seal included.
This is a far above average Scottish lobe butt with gold and silver inlays. 12 inches overall. Further research will only enhance the value of this most interesting Scotsman
