A Possibly Unique Scottish Officer’s Regimental Baskethilted Backsword Of The Perthshire Highland Regiment From The Ancestral Collection Of The Baron Of Loudoun Complete With Documentation Circa 1793-1795.
29 and 1/8th inch backsword blade with one broad fuller running the entire length of the blade to the point and a 15 and 3/4 inch narrow fuller above. 10 inch clip point. The elaborate basket with line engraving pierced with four well rendered Scottish thistles. Spiral fluted wood grip in fine condition. Domed steel pommel. The sword retains its buff leather washer.
The blade condition is good with light age staining. The basket shows a lovely russet patina with no pitting. This sword is entirely homogenous and has never been dismounted. Accompanying this rarity is a tag sealed with red wax that certifies the sword as coming from the Collection of the Baron of Loudoun.
As the Perthshire Regiment only lasted three years such a blade with a distinguished provable provenance is a true find for the lover of Scottish swords.
