A Good Scottish Highland Basket Hilted Backsword 3rd Quarter Of The 18th Century From The Collection Of The Baron Loudoun.
32 inch cutting edge backsword blade with two long fullers. The lower fuller with stamped cabalistic letters “VEN VED” and “VICAT” (possibly a version of Julius Caesar’s Veni, Vidi, Vichi - I came I saw I conquered).
Classic Scottish basket hilt pierced with hearts. Leather wrapped grip. Scottish domed steel pommel. 38 inches overall. Blade is polished in the European manner. Hilt is lightly pitted overall, Grip is an old rewrap.
