A Very Good Northern European Cavalry Saber With Classic Basket Hilt Of So Called “Sinclair” Pattern Circa 1640.

A superlative example of this important type. 34 inch cutting edge with two broad fillers extending to the point. 1 and 5/8th inches wide at forte. 10 inch clip point. Finely forged blackened (now age brown) Sinclair hilt with large shell pattern knuckle guard. Lovely fluted mushroom pommel. Complex twisted wire wrapped wood grip with “Turk’s Heads”. Quillions end in pointed balls.

Condition of blade is cleaned steel. Hilt is a lovely age brown patina. Grip is original of the period and rates excellent. This is a very fine broadsword of Sinclair type and will look great in any collection of 17th century swords.
