A Very Fine High Quality And Most Unusual 17th Century “Lobster Tail” Or Zischagge Circa 1628.

The helm of very good form and weighing 5 pounds one ounce. The skull of 7 plates riveted together in the manner of early spangenhelms. The wide brim struck with “R R” over crossed swords, 4 articulated neck lames.

This lovely headpiece even retains both of its earflaps studded with decorative rivers. Even the leather holding the earflaps appears to be of the first or second quarter of the 17th century. The decorative rivets guarantee that this zischagge is entirely homogenous of the period.

The helmet has a most attractive even age patination outside while the interior shows its nearly four centuries of age. A truly exceptional example of this common but most essential type for the collector of arms and armour.
