A Splendid Museum Quality Homogenous Silver Decorated Italian True Swept Hilt Rapier Circa 1595.

Long 43 and 3/8th inch diamond shape rapier blade with 12 inch fullers signed in block letters “Antonio en Toleda” with Christian cross. Wonderful complex swept hilt with trumpet shaped quillions extensively inlaid with raised silver in a chevron pattern and floral silver inlay on the ricasso. Superb original wire wrapped wood grip with the finest “Turk’s Heads” we have ever seen.

The faceted globose pommel is inlaid with silver chevrons en suite with the hilt. The “foot” of the pommel is inlaid with silver and the pommel nut is silver inlaid with chevron pattern ensuite with the hilt and pommel.

Condition of the blade rates excellent for a 4 century old rapier. Grip is excellent. Hilt and pommel are slightly cleaned but retain nearly 100% of the lovely silver inlay.

At 52 inches overall this is a real nobleman’s man’s rapier. It balances perfectly 3 and 1/4 inches forward of the hilt as a rapier should.

Decorated genuine homogenous 16th century rapiers very rarely appear even in the auctions of the great European houses. The ensuite silver decoration guarantees the homogeneity of this magnificent rapier. It is tight and simply awesome. The decoration of the pommel nut is the icing on the cake of this fantastic rapier.
