A Splendid Pair Of Elegant French Double Barrel Flintlock Naval Officer’s Pistols Circa 1750 With Exquisite Full Stocks And Brass “Skull Crusher” Dog Head Brass Butts.
8 and 1/4 inch barrels, 54 caliber. Stepped all brass lock plates are engraved with foliage. Steel cocks are engraved ensuite. Barrels are engraved with traces of gilding. Brass foresights. Brass pans, ramrod thimbles, engraved brass triggerguard. Fierce snarling brass dog head buttcaps with bared teeth.
Walnut stocks rate very good with period decoration to imitate briarwood. Actions on both pistols are excellent and bores are good. 14 and 3/8th inches overall. One pistol with old period ramrod the other missing its ramrod.
This is a rare and attractive pair of French brass mounted double barrel flintlock pistols that were the property of a prominent member of the most prestigious arms collector’s association in America, the American Society of Arms Collectors.
