One Of The Ultimate Rarities In WWII Japanese Military Samurai Swords (Katana) Is This Very Fine Handmade Signed And Dated “Star Blade” Tachi In Original Type 44 Mountings.
25 and 7/8th inch broad shinogi tsukuri blade with choji midare temper and pronounced ashi, Itame hada. Blade is in almost full bright polish with a few areas of minor staining. Tang with good file marks and well executed kanji surmounted by the coveted “star” guaranteeing the blade to be a genuine samurai sword made using traditional methods of forging and tempering.
The mounts are in excellent original WWII condition with perfect tight handle wrap. Real samurai swords are so rarely found in these late military mounts that most collectors will not even bother looking at swords in these mounts, which is a mistake. Out of hundreds of Type 44 swords only one will have a fine blade such as this one.
A very rare find for the collector of Japanese WWII militaria or the collector of good gedai-to.
