A Good Koto Period Japanese Samurai Sword Katana Mounted In Fine WWII Imperial Japanese Army Officer’s Mounts The Blade Circa 1570.

26 and 1/2 inch shinogi tsukiri cutting edge in brilliant old sashikomi polish. The active suguha hamon shot through with ji nie. The hada appears to be ayasugi in the Gassan tradition. Two minor umegane fills on ura near monouchi and one ware at the midpoint above the hamon.

Suriage nakago with four mekugi and and niji mei Kanemune signature possibly gi-mei. Copper habaki. The Imperial Army officer’s mounts in pristine condition throughout retaining nearly all gilt finishes on fuchi and kashira. The tsuka with perfect silk wrap and excellent quality same. The saya with 99% original enamel and no dents.

This is a very handsome samurai sword that was carried with great care and is in extraordinary condition throughout. Even all the castellated sepia are original.
