An Exceptionally Fine True Southern Percussion Derringer Barrel Stamped “MAN (Manufactured) For F.H. Clark & Co. Memphis Tenn” Circa 1855.

2 inch round barrel. 36 caliber rifled bore. F.H. Clark was one of the 15 agents authorized by Henry Deringer to retail his famous pistols. F.H. Clark was not only an agent for Henry but sold Tennessee made derringers as well. This is a true Southern derringer exhibiting classic Southern form and possibly coin silver furniture.

Breech engraved with a scroll. The back action lock with good floral engraving. Hammer engraved ensuite. Even the bolster features silver overlay. All screws are engraved. Unusual silver reinforcing inlay under the fore-end. Silver furniture is engraved.

Walnut full stock is finely checkered at wrist. Barrel stampings are worn but generally very good. The pin front sight appears to be gold. Shield thumb piece is finely engraved. Action is good. Bore is fair. Wood rates very fine with crisp checkering.

6 and 3/4 inches overall. This is a very fine and scarce Southern derringer. Barrel markings have been verified as authentic by Jack Lewis, a noted Southern derringer collector and expert.
