An Outstanding Signed And Dated Contemporary Japanese Samurai Sword Tanto Mounted In Lovely Shin Shinto Shakudo Mounts Featuring Stevedores Dressed In Rain Hats Pulling A Boat In Gold With Copper Details And Very Fine Menuki Of Lunar Rabbit In Dark Shakudo.
11 and 3/8th inch long, wide hira tsukuri blade. Beautiful wide midare hamon (temper) with very masterfully executed itame hada. Tang (nakago) with one mekugi ana signed and dated in superbly chiseled characters (kanji). The tsuka wrapped in purple silk over nearly presentation same. Excellent “cat scratched” solid silver habaki.
The scabbard is a true work of the makie artist’s art black lacquer highlighted with green. Two magnificent inlaid silver dragons are inlaid into the lacquer in such seamless fashion that lift this saya (scabbard) to museum quality. The koiguchi, kurokawa, kojiri, and even the uragawara (kozuka band) are all ensuite with the fuchi kashira. The kozuka is extremely fine quality signed and inlaid on both sides with gold peony’s and katakiri bori decoration.
The condition of the blade is full, bright, keisho polish with no kizu and perfect nakago. The ensuite mounts are excellent with little or no wear. The scabbard is excellent with one old well executed repair on the right side toward the kojiri.
One of the most luxuriously mounted Japanese swords it has been our distinct pleasure to offer to our discerning aficionados of the samurai sword.
