A Desirable Brass Barrel English Flintlock Blunderbuss With Snap Bayonet By Thomas Circa 1820.
14 and 1/4 inch barrel with 1 and 1/4 inch bore on bell muzzle. Birmingham gunmakers proofs. Plain bolted lock signed in script “Thomas”. Triangular snap bayonet with good strong spring. Brass furniture including triggerguard with pronounced acorn finial. Figured walnut full stock. Condition of the brass barrel with light wear Steel parts patinated. Triggerguard with old repair.
Walnut stock with marks from storage but generally sound with no cracks or splits. Long ago in the 19th century a competent gunsmith added an effective steel belt hook. Action is good on both half and full cock. Period horn tipped ramrod is shortened.
Bore is fine, 40 and 3/4 inches overall with bayonet extended. Far more attractive than its description, this is a nice snap bayonet blunderbuss.
